I will cut you

July 31, 2009

ok, not really, but Ethan has been very into his wooden swords, daggers, and shields. He’s even been making some of his own. When we practice sword fight, it’s a good way that I can hit him with a stick and not get in trouble with the authorities. Kidding again… mostly. :)

and the digging continues. I never thought the hole would get deep enough that he’d need a dump truck to haul away the dirt.

be aware

There’s a new pirate in town…I think I like this piracy thing better than the golf phase.

Golf!#?!

August 29, 2008

Oh, man. the kid likes golf. Do they have any re-education programs that can fix this?

prepping for a life in the circus

June 24, 2008

With the price of oil going up, I hear the circus is paying pretty well for kids lately. We figured we should get him in training for the life…plus if he has some skills, we can get a better price.

out of hand?

ok, I realize I’ve gone overboard posting about this keva thing, but Ethan’s reaction is here is good for a laugh.

Ethan said the sweetest thing to me this evening. I haven’t seen much of him over the last week, due to trips up north, broken cars, and his busy home school schedule. Heather was out at a church meeting, and we had some quiet time to play keva and reconnect. At some point in the evening he said, “I love you a circle – it just goes on and on forever.”

Bow and arrow

February 20, 2008

Ethan constructed his own bow and arrow while at the Grandparent’s this weekend. He made the arrow out of 2 straws. It even has a little arrowhead made from paper. This seems like some kind of Jedi right of passage. Well, if it were a light saber and could cut through 3 ft thick steel blast doors maybe. I guess it’s more of a junior Robin Hood kind of thing.

little things

February 4, 2008

This is a really little thing, but I was kind of surprised by it; I was sitting with Ethan at the craft table at the Ethiopian thing this weekend, and the one adult managing the 20 kids doing projects was hurriedly asking each kid questions to see what kind of project they wanted to do and giving them the appropriate supplies. My normal reaction in this kind of situation is to re-ask the questions to Ethan and tell the adult his responses, but all of a sudden he was interacting with this strange new adult, and doing a good job of communicating with her. This may not be a big deal for any other 6yo, but Ethan has always been reticent when it comes to new people.
