como conservatory

April 13, 2008

If spring won’t come to us, I’ll just go where spring is. Cathy, Ethan, and I had a fun trip to the como conservatory where it was a comfy 75 degrees F with plenty of humidity. There were green things growing everywhere and reminded me what it was like to not have winter. Lots of other fellow Minnesotans had the same idea; it was packed, but we still had a very nice trip.

I have the cutest niece in the universe.

easter eggs and snow

March 22, 2008

Yes, tomorrow is easter, and it’s snowing. Let’s all welcome spring in minnesota.

ugh, the timing chain on our 2000 Saturn LW1 busted effectivly toasting the engine. When I bought the car, the fact that it had a chain instead of a belt was a big selling point for me.

35W Bridge

March 1, 2008

Someone forgot to tell the weather that February is over. We went for a walk to see the progress on the new 35W bridge, and it was cold. very cold. It was fun to catch a glimpse of the flurry of activity that’s been going on 24/7. You can get a really good view on the walking path of the bridge that’s right next door.

wedding weekend

February 26, 2008

We had a fun wedding weekend for Faith and Ted. It was a very small and intimate ceremony; I don’t ever remember attending another wedding where I was standing five feet away from the couple while they were exchanging vows. It’s also such a unique experience (for me anyway) to spend that much time with the families of my friends. Even though there were only eleven people involved, there were plenty of “wedding logistical issues.” I even spent three quarters of an hour in the car with Faith’s dad tracking down a repaired tire for his truck. I suppose, in a way, weddings are like vacations: you don’t take a trip[wedding] a trip[wedding] takes you -John Steinbeck

Aren’t they the cutest!

Eclipse

February 21, 2008

Ethan and I had a great night watching the eclipse this evening. We set an alarm every 10 minutes and would run between moon gazing and playing keva blocks. We were lucky to be able to see it from a window in the house as it’s really really cold out there. He gets a little nuts when we let him stay up that late, but it’s worth it here and there.

bakken

February 10, 2008

Cathy and I took Ethan to the Bakken a couple weeks ago, and I just got around to putting some pics up. The Bakken Museum is a center for education and learning that furthers the understanding of the history, cultural context, and applications of electricity. It’s got a ton of hands on exhibits that big and little people love. We all had a great time and will go back soon. They even have a bakken evening out which is an evening of “Electrifying fun for grown ups.” Apparently they have wine and chocolate. yum.

fun sundays

February 4, 2008

We’ve fallen into this habit of being out and about all day on Sunday. Today, we went to church, to lunch at the co-op, landmark center for a Ethiopian urban explorer day, climbing at VE, and to a game party at Cathy’s. 10am-9:50pm. I don’t think days like this would’ve been possible a year ago, but now Ethan keeps up just fine and doesn’t want the day to end when it’s bedtime.
